In Iran, most of the Middle East, and North Africa, houses are built using bricks (and in the case of Bam, using mud bricks), because that is the only material available and relatively cheap. In both Iran (especially in the last 20-30 years) and the US, tall buildings are built on a steel frame.<br /><br />Comparing the sense of security and safety in ones home in the US and Iran is much more complicated: One has to look at crime rates and the sense of security. Guns are readily available in the US, and in most states, one can carry concealed weapons (even to class rooms in colleges in some of them).
